# Update

Before installing a new version of GrainBits, **create a backup** of your current version to ensure data safety. Click on the three dots beside your active theme and choose the download option.

If you haven't modified any theme files, you can simply upload the new `grainbits.zip` file in the Ghost Admin and you're good to go.

If you've modified certain files, you'll need to reapply those changes to the new theme files. Otherwise, **your changes will be overwritten**.

For minor style adjustments, we recommend using [Code Injection](https://ghost.org/tutorials/use-code-injection-in-ghost/) in the Ghost Admin. This way, your changes are preserved across theme updates.
